Reviving traditional culture to create the future. A regeneration project from Taiza, the sacred land of Tango Chirimen,a Japan Heritage site.
Weaving 300 years of heritage into a future of new value.
Waking to the stir of fishermen heading out to sea before dawn, living to the rhythm of looms weaving through the day— Kyoto's Taiza is a coastal town shaped by the hands of its artisans.
The 300-year tradition of Tango Chirimen is not a relic to be preserved behind glass, but a living craft that evolves daily— a cutting-edge force that should drive the creation of the future.
Transforming a dormant weaving mill into a hub where global talent converges. Turning scattered machiya townhouses into immersive stays steeped in local stories. A new 'Craft Ecosystem' where tourism sustains cultural heritage and revitalizes the local economy.
A story begins—weaving tradition into the future, and out to the world.
To revitalize Taiza and the Tango region, we protect local craftsmanship and traditions while attracting future artisans, artists, and designers, creating a place to share Japan's artistry with the world, right here in Taiza.
We are renovating Taiza's weaving mills and vacant houses to create a place that carries the Japan Heritage 'Tango Chirimen Corridor: 300 Years of Silk Weaving' into the next generation. This place will inspire new artisans, serving as both a space for them to work and live, and a space where visitors can connect with the warm people of Taiza and experience life in this land.

Tango-cho, Kyotango City
Taiza
Taiza, located in Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture, is a historic fishing village steeped in legends—including the tale of Empress Hashihito, mother of Prince Shotoku, and the story of 'Tate-iwa' (Standing Rock).
This globally significant site is a key part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs-designated Japan Heritage 'Tango Chirimen Corridor: 300 Years of Silk Weaving,' and remains the beating heart of traditional culture where the sound of looms still echoes today.
Embraced by a dramatic coastline, the town is alive with the calls of fishing boats carrying Taiza crab and the intimate lanes where daily life unfolds.
We will carry forward the history and warm way of life that this land has woven, and from here in Taiza, share with the world a new value where tradition and the future intersect.
